Bioindustry Fund I
Plastic-free, biodegradable packaging
Colombier produces, for example, plastic-free flexible packaging and cups for coffee, salad and ice cream. In addition, Colombier produces many kinds of boxes and food-carry bags.
Colombier’s ecological packaging solutions replace the use of fossil-based single-use plastics. Colombier EcoBarrier to-go cup has a roughly 20% lower carbon footprint compared to a conventional PE coated paper cup and a 35% lower carbon footprint compared to a comparable compostable cup. In addition to contributing to climate change mitigation, Colombier’s solution supports circularity by improving the end-products’ recyclability compared to the current BAT by providing a solution that contains no plastic and is 100% recyclable as wastepaper. It is compostable and biodegradable in marine environments.
Taaleri’s support helped us quadruple our barrier paper and board production capacity. We were also able to introduce many product quality related improvements and continue innovating new recyclable packaging materials. Besides capital, we benefitted greatly from Taaleri Bioindustry's technical and engineering expertise needed to redesign and rebuild the complicated production process.

All Bioindustry Fund I-related carbon footprint calculations consider the full life cycle of the product. The values presented are based on third-party verified LCA calculations from which the data has been adjusted to the annual production volumes. The numbers presented have not been modified to account for the funds share of the carbon footprint, but they represent the total emissions. Only those values showing the fund’s share of the produced emissions are reported in the fund reports.
Carbon handprint is the amount of GHG that would have been emitted by the replaced product during the lifetime of the organisation’s product. The values presented are based on third party verified LCA calculations from which the data has been adjusted to annual production volumes. The numbers presented have not been modified to account for the funds share of the carbon handprint, but they represent the total avoided emissions. Only those values showing the fund’s share of the produced impact are reported in the fund reports.
